Boating Victoria
Who is Boating Victoria?
Boating is a lifestyle and recreation for family and friends wanting to share excitement and fun together. Boating Victoria's aim is to increase the enjoyment of boat club members with a passion for power boating. Boating Victoria, the specialist division of Yachting Victoria, represents and promotes the interest of the power boat community. It principally serves clubs to whom individual owners belong. Its members are represented by an elected Committee who is responsible for its direction and operation.
What does Boating Victoria do?
Boating Victoria provides clubs and their power boat members services that are in many ways similar to those provided to sailors at yacht clubs. However in some instances Power and Sail Boat owners have different needs and we ensure these differences are recognised and Power Boat owners’ expectations are met.
Representation to Government – Boating Victoria assists the development of boating infrastructure and deals with important government issues such as foreshore and facilities development as well as marine safety regulation. We listen to the boating community and make sure its voice is heard particularly at a State Government level.
Promoting Boating – Boating Victoria provides a hub for communication with the Victorian power boat community by networking between members clubs throughout Victoria. We promote the benefits of belonging to a club including the safety and social advantages of the club community.
Training – Boating Victoria delivers a full range of Recreational Marine Training and Education. Instructors are accredited through Yachting Australia and courses are available for all levels and types of boat. They include the Power Boat Handling (and Licence) course, Safety Boat Handling, Radio, First Aid and Navigation. The Yachting Australia Power Boat course is ideally suited to Clubs who want to deliver practical training to newcomers to boating and local schools. The National Motor Cruising Scheme is specifically tailored to larger power boat owners who want to develop their skill.
Developing and Promoting Events - Boating Victoria assists clubs to develop, promote and run events to bring the boating community together. Events include both Navigation events and a range of social activities and rallies, such as the Boating Victoria Motor Cruiser Rally, held at Melbourne Docklands during the Melbourne Stop Over of the Volvo Ocean Race.
Services to Clubs - Through it’s association with Yachting Victoria, Boating Victoria clubs are able to access policy advice, favourable insurance arrangements, exchange information with other clubs, and access low cost IT services such as MyClub and MySite. MyClub is Australia’s leading sports club membership management system and MySite is Australia’s cheapest and easiest web site technology, especially designed for sports clubs. The Boating Victoria web site links the addresses of all member clubs in Victoria and provides important information to the Victorian boating community.
What’s the difference to the BIA (Boating Industry Association)?
Boating Victoria represents the users, or members at clubs, and works closely with the Boating Industry Association who represent all suppliers including manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of boats and related services.
By working with Yachting Victoria, Boating Victoria is able to share the cost and increase the effectiveness of influencing government, servicing clubs and promoting the boating communities interests. If you are a Power Boat owner talk to your club about Boating Victoria.
